I picked mine out by hand but, I only had ten or fifteen. I used a set of surgical Hemostats.

Are they causing a problem? Just unsightly? The little white ones? They are pretty tough... physical removal would be my best idea. If you get a shrimp to eradicate them you will have to regularly feed it live star fish. Harlequin shrimp are tough to keep... but would definitely be cool!

Some larger wrasses will eat them, and harliquin shrimp but must keep feeding him stars and will try to eat any other stars you might have or want

Are you talking about Asterina starfish?

I was having the same problem. They became a problem in my tank. Always on my zoas, keeping them closed, and eating my coralline. I got a pair of Harlequin shrimp. My favorite shrimp. I had tons, now I have a few. Since they crushed the asterina population I now feed them a $5 choc chip star once a month.

I find a few in my tank every once in a while, and I pick them out by hand. They don't seem to bother anything, but they do eat coraline algae. It would be nice if they would eat it off the glass, but IME they only eat it off the rocks, and so are pests in my opinion.

AquaReeferMan, Does the CC starfish eat any of your corals before it gets eaten? I know it can take the shrimp quite some time to finally kill the starfish and in the meantime it could damage your corals.

Datman, was it the Asterina star that you were talking about? If so, then yes pick them out by hand when you see them. But if they're the tiny brittle stars, they're actually beneficial to your aquarium as they only eat detritus and don't get large like their large brittle star cousins.

i fed my harliquins choc chip stars all the time. i have a coral eef tank and the star is caught and left imobilized by the shrimp while the eat it for days. they accomplish this by flipping the star on its back and not ever alowing it to turn over!

Well I have a chocolate star that was given to me when I took the tank. I think I might just add a couple harlequin shrimp. Do harlequin shrimp attack other shrimp like cleaner skunk shrimp? Are they agressive to anything else besides starfish?
