How long does it take a maxima clam to be full grown? I've fallen in love with a gold tear drop maxima, but I only have a 26 gal tank, and I know I won't be able to keep it there forever. I'm setting up a larger tank, but wasn't planning on making it a reef tank...although I'm aweful tempted. The clam is currently 4.25" long...how fast do they grow?

maxima's grow between 1" - 2" per year on average until they reach sexual maturity, then the growth slows.

you can expect the maxima to reach a maximum size of 10 inches in your tank. i think the record is 17 inches but i have not seen a single one over 9-10 inches in captivity

I'd say you have plenty of time. The bigger concern is whether or not you have enough LIGHT.
Wondering what the LIFESPAN of a T. Max is. IOW, how many years do they live?

I currently have 150w MH and I plan on upgrading to a 250w MH with T5 VHO...I think it'll be ok with the lights. :)
Thanks again for the info everyone!
