I bought a mimic tang a couple of days ago yesterday, on our way out, i noticed my 3 inch derasa clam not opening up fully and notices the mimic picking at it. I didn't think nothing of it cause i figured there maybe some algae that the fish is picking at since tangs aren't supposed to do that, right. So we didn'tget home until late last night and then this morning i noticed all this mucus type stuff around the clam. What is it? I just covered up my clam as well since when I touched it, it didn't respond very fast. Does this mean it's dying? What can I do do save it?

post a picture if you can. tangs or any grazer can be a problem if kept with clams. generally once they start to nip they won't stop. you are probably going to have to make a decision ( if the tang hasn't made it for you already. )

I am stuill not sure what the slime was around the clam. I can't post a picture right now but will whenever I get my cam charged up. The clam seems to be okay. I put some clear plastic container over it so the tang wont be able to get to it. It is opened up nice and full now, I till need to get someting better to cover it so it gets some flow through the container.

Clam is okay. opened up fully with nice coloring so I guess I just have to keep it caged for now. Thanks for the input.
