I was doing a water change this morning and I had my glass tops on the floor waiting to take outside to rinse off the salt. I accidently stepped on them and broke them!
I currently run a 48" Tek Light 6-54W T5 Fixture and I have it mounted inside a canopy with the acrylic shield installed in the light. I have two cooling fans mounted inside the top of the canopy to remove heat. I am thinking about not replacing the glass tops, what do you think?

Sweet, your foot helped your tank!!

Keep them off. Be weary of jumpers.

I have not used glass tops over my tanks in years. Not using them keeps the tank cooler, it helps with air exchange and makes the lights appear brighter to your eyes and corals.

The only downside, like tkeracer619 mentioned, is fish jumping out.

i agree ditch the glass lids, you will have more evaporation, but i like it that way , now i can dose more kalk.

I have a bunch of glass lids to get rid of. Just taking up space in my garage.

Depending on your fish, no lid may be a problem. We just upgraded to MH and had to get rid of glass lids for heat. Because of the wrasses, we are using eggcrate and so far so good. The look of the tank is much better.
