Hello,

I want to raise my 29 gallon sump 6" to fit a auto-top off resevoir underneath. I've heard that unlike glass, acrylic must be completely supported on the bottom (vs. glass which just needs support on the molded edges). Would this design be sufficient? Could I just put the sump on 2 cinder blocks (w/o the wood sheet? This would work best due to limited space).

Thanks,
Shawn

You will have to fully support the bottom, the acrylic does not have enough strength to hold the weight of the water on it's own and you should also place a piece of foam in between the plywood and sump to help even out any lumps and bumps in the wood.

How about setting up cinder blocks + laying 2 2x4's across the top. Is this enough, or does every sq. inch literally have to be supported?

on something that size a bit of a gap should be ok, but adding a pice of 1/2" plywood isn't going to be that much added to a 2 x 4 and only 2 2 x 4's will not be enough the put 5 or 6 and then it would probably be ok.

True, will probably put 2 2x4's and slap a piece of plywood on top just to be safe. Thanks!

so will your whole house if you want to pursue that logic.

cinder blocks make a really solid base. I had my 90 at my other house on cinder blocks. it's those little crap storebought tank stands that should make you nervous.
