Hi, my tank just recently ended its cycle, got 55 lbs of live rock, ive added a clean up crew, and am gettin ready to add some corals. Im wondering if I need to keep my power filter going or not. It is running with the carbon media in between those floss? filters that come with the power filter(Top Fin). Should I keep these going? Ive heard that beneficial bacteria often houses itself there. Ive also heard that carbon only works for a couple of weeks at a time, and is best kept for medication purposes. Id really just like to know what to keep and what not. Any help is appreciated.

The carbon does work well, and I use my HOB in my sump as an additional way to run carbon. I kept my HOB and continue to run the sponge in it, so when I get new fish I can set up the QT and have some bacteria to help with Biofiltration.
