140 watts of MH or 440 watts of VHO for softies?

Do you guys think 140 watts of MH is better for softies, like mushrooms and xenia, or 440 watts of VHO? It's going to be on a 100 gallon tank. 48"long x 25" wide x 20" tall.

As in 2 70w metal halides? You're not going to get very good penetration with those. Are 2 150w halides out of your budget? Those would do substantially better than even 4 VHOs.
