View Full Version : Jason's 11 month old 370G

Jason McK

Well it's time to get brave enough to show RC people my 370G

Here are the specs.

78X36X30. With the right side the overflow. So the viewable show tank is 6"
I have used an Oceans Motion 4-way for water movement. and 2 wavey seas on the returns + a static return. Both the 4-way and the returns are driven by 2 Sequence Hammerhead pumps.
I have a 90G sump and a 30G frag tank in-line with the return. I run 3 400W MH with Blueline E-ballast. + 8X T5 actinics. I'm still running an under rated DIY Beckett Skimmer. I also run Zeovit

So here are some pictures:

Ok so we were out of our league thinking we could lift and carry this monster into the house

Very nice set up by the way!

Hey Sparky, I got the tank built for me through Hidden Reef in Abbotsford.

how do you like the zeovit method? Been thinking of going that route on my next tank.

Jason McK
05/06/2007, 08:42 PM
I really like Zeovit. I have found it to be very easy to use and has kept my Nitrates and Phosphates at zero.
I have expanded beyond the basic nitrate reducing 4 and am finding great this with the Ameno Acids and the addition of phosphate

cool thanks! I am in the planning stages of a 600g in wall reef in my new home and was really considering its usage.

Jason McK
05/06/2007, 09:28 PM
There are many bacteria methods out there. Zeovit, Prodibio, Reef Refresh, and Fauna Marine are the ones I'm familiar with. Check them all out. I found ZEO to be the best but like everything, different strokes for different foks. :)

Yes it's the 1/2 single stage. I really have no reference as I have never had any other chillers but it has been running flawlessly for almost a year now. No problems to speak of. I run a Medusa controler to control both my heaters and the chiller. Works great

Hey Jason,

Good to see you started a thread here! Your system is amazing!

Now......bore us with equipment, growth and construction shots? C'mon now, lay them on us.

We want to see how you put this bad boy together!

We want to see all the pics with all the details along with all the hurdles you have encountered along the way. What kind of maintenance do you do and how often? How long have you been using that Zeo stuff for and what are your future plans?

:D

I made the 3XLuminarc III with 8X T5 on drawer slides. They will slide both directions 36 inches. So I have full access

I really enjoy this pic. It is a hole in the Glass for one of the closed loops. The glass is 2 pieces of 3/8ths laminated together

Well the tank arrived March 30th.

So I'll start with the room. it was an "L" shaped den and I have taken over the "L" part. Fortunate the laundry room is right next to it. Great water and drain access.
http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/thebegining .jpg

you will also notice I have removed a lot of the crappy laminate floor.
I also needed to level the concrete underneath.

http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/wall out.JPG
angle from the laundry room

I then tiled what will be the front of the tank
http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/tile.JPG

http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/standbuild.JPG
The stand was build from plans from a fellow reefer. TomR. Out of 2x4 and 2x6. Hey did you know 2x4s aren't actually 2inches wide. Who the hell came up with that.
here it is painted
http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/finished stand.JPG

And here it is getting it's first cleaning
http://www.user.dccnet.com/thezoo/tank/vacuumthetank.JPG

The Tank looks great Hidden Reef did a great job. Marc drilled all the holes in the thing and it was an amazing job.
So next will be to pretty up the stand and build a false wall.

Jason McK

hey Bill. I keep meaning to call you to go Diving.

The OM are silent. You could put the pump on your crawl space and run the plumbing up to the tank and have the OM up high.

You don't really need it though your flow is good as is. Isn't it?

Sorry Mothra I didn't see your post until now. I guess some of the concerns I had while building were:
Access In order to do maintenance you need access to the front and the back. Make sure you plan for that. What are the dimensions of you tank?
Water movement. I wanted to avoid Power heads at all cost. So I did the closed loop with Ocean Motion 4-way. I love it and would recommend it to anyone.
I tried to research and purchase low watt everything to try and keep operating costs down. not sure how successful I was but it was a good story to tell my wife.

Let me know if you have any specific questions I'd be happy to lend a heand

I started this tank on zeovit. So it's been a year and 3 months. Over all I believe it has improved the over all colour of the corals in the tank. I have had issues will ALK and CA unrelated to ZEO. But now that these are back in line I'm seeing continued improvements.
I'm not one to tout ZEOvit as the only solution I've seen great tanks on other forms of bacteria based system and even more that use nothing. But for me I really find that it works.
I'm continuing to add more of the Zeo line to enhance the corals. Plus the Makers of Zeo are continuing to improve the products they already have

Jason McK

UMMMM, could you tell me what a Calfo manifold is? :)

I run a closed loop. on a Ocean motion 4 way. I brought 1 of the outputs of the 4-way and ran it along the front top of the tank. Then put 4 outputs in it.

Here is an old pic. All the holes in the tank are part of the OM 4-way closed loop
