OK, this is my oddest request, but anyone happen to work for a pharmacy or drug company and know where to buy empty capsules that slide apart and can be filled with stuff?

The rest of this is just an explanation of my idea, feel free to comment if I'm missing something...

For the last year I've given up on the whole kalkwasser thing and simply do water changes. As long as my pH is good, I'm happy. Today I had an odd idea to improve CA/ALK a little, while doing very little work.

I have a giant float switch I made with an air-filled bottle, a rod, and some pvc. If too high or low it completes a circuit on my AC Jr and triggers an event. On the top of my sump is a slot where the top is open to facilitate the rod, and you can look down directly into that pvc pipe from above.

A small pill filled with kalk or any dry additive could be dropped down there and would seep out slowly. I do manual top-offs. While turning off the RODI feed I could easily drop in a capsule. It would be so easy that my wife could do it when I'm out of town.

My only concern is how slowly the water inside that pipe will escape. It might be too slow. And I'm not thrilled about having a container full of extremely toxic pills in the house. But it's no worse than the container of kalk I guess.

Thanks in advance,
Tony

For fun, here's two pictures of the giant float check thing. I made it big as I've never heard of a retail product that doesn't fail some day. This things idiot-proof and so big it's hard to jam up.

That should work fine as long as you are not concerned about the Gelatin addition to the tank. Gelatin is a protein substance made from the hydrolysis of collagen extract, usually from animal tissue.

I'm a little scared of the gelatin thing too. That link jdieck posted has lots of types. Some are 'vegetarian'. I will read up more before I do anything.
