hi folks, i bought 2 neon gobies today. LFS didn't know for sure if they were a pair or not but they seemed happy with each other. Now that they're in my tank i'm not so sure... the slightly larger one has been chasing the smaller one a lot.

anyways, the real question is... do neon gobies change gender like clownfish do? i've been trying to do research, and a lot of the articles talk about SOME gobies changing sex, without specific mention of neon gobies.

any help is much appreciated. thanks!

Not sure about neons specifically, but I was able to find a reference that states:

"Many of the gobies are hermaphrodites, either protandrous (male to female) or protogynous (female to male)."

thanks vitaly... that's definitely getting closer! but yeah, that's about the same stuff i was finding in my research. it always says "most or many gobies can change gender". but there's never a mention of which ones exactly.

i was just hoping that my gobies would eventually pair up and possibly mate in the future.
