Hey guys,

Was checking out my tank today and noticed it was leaking. Unfortunatly my auto-top off compensated for it and the salinity is really low (about 1.020, I usually keep it at 1.026) I've started to transfer the rocks and fish over to some rubbermaid tubs, and have already got a new tank. Is there anything special I should do besides move everything over? And what do I do with the sand? I don't want to have to recycle the tank as my fish would be waiting for their new home. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Angel

I don't know, that's the problem. It must be some where near the bottom where I wouldn't see anything along the glass. I just know that if I look under the tank inside the stand it's all wet and dripping down.

slow or fast?...if slow....start a QT tank asap...after its cycled, (helps if you remove water from original tank)move all life stock in...then get new tank and repeat process.....
if fast....

What I'm doing now is drainging the water from the tank alittle at a time and pouring it into some rubbermaid containers and moving the rocks over. Once I get all the rocks out I'll get the fish out. Just a quick question since I'm using the same rocks and water why would I need to cycle the tank? It's gonna be out of the water for like 5 seconds.

O.K. the tank is almost empty. Any suggestions on what I should do with the sand?

You should be able to reuse the sand as well, if it is a DSB you will expose the anaerobic bacteria to air and it will partially die off so you will loose some of the ability to deal with certain properties in your tank but otherwise the sand should be fine. Put it in some buckets or tubs with water from the tank.

Awesome. Thanks for the help. I managed to get everything out. Unfortunatly the stand is very very wet. I may have to replace some parts. Luckily I made it myself so I should just need a trip to Home Depot tomorrow to get everything going. Thanks for the help again guys. I'll keep you updated.

Well the tank is back up. Half the rocks are in, but the fish and some rocks are still in the rubbermaid. I'm gonna wait till the water clears up from the sand. Thanks for the help guys.
