I just got 2 new Tunze nanostream 6045 powerheads. I also bought an Ocean Pulse Duo wavemaker which alternates the powerheads at various intervals.
My concern is when each pump turns on it makes a ratcheting sound (almost like gears grinding). It only happens for about a second or less. Is this normal?

Whats the on and off duration? A minimum of 15 min off cycles are suggested.

It's probably the sounds it makes when it is self correcting the rotation. I would use a timer on them until they are broken in well. I don't know whether or not it will harm them to use a timer right away, I just liken it to any mechanical device, they seem to work better after broken in.

Regards,

Pat

the 6025 and 6045 are not made to be used on wavemakers you are going to kill them

Yeah I wish I had known this before I bought them, But I can tell they are quality units so I am really not dissapointed to much. The increased flow is very welcome.
