I was using a little white single-LED flashlight to illuminate the coral from the top. Yes, I was actually that bored one morning :)

I was just admiring all the nice macro shots. You guys do good work. I want to take a crock at doing some macro photography with my tank.

Jeff you said you use the EF100 f/2.8 macro. What kind of working distances do you get with that lens? I am thinking of getting one for my Digital Rebel.

kactusficus, I still love that favia...

nmywrx, working distance is about 6" from the lens for 1:1. On that shot, I had to place the coral on the bottom at the side of the tank to get the shot.

I know blazer recently switched to a sigma 150mm for the extra working distance.

This was while I was in Cozumel last week. I know it isn't reef related but the frog was so awsome and it was soo dark out, I had to post. I also have some cool shots with my underwater digital, but they are not at night.

My favorite.

The tamron macro lens is very popular: http://www.tamron.com/en/photolens/di_macro/272e.html

I got one for x-mas and wow, what a difference. I had been using my D90 and stock 18-105mm kit lens along with my 35mm portrait lens. They just can't come close to a macro lens for these kinds of pics.

I plan to get a set of extension tubes to further magnify my macro lens. You can supposedly use them with regular lenses to get a good macro effect. I have no experience with these tubes at all.
