I have just purchased a pair of metal halides - will the tank bracing be strong enough for me to put them straight on . the tank is a 100 gallon with 2 front curved edges and has a glass ledge inside the top of the tank at front and back connected with two pices of glass i.e the bracing does not sit on the top of the tank. the lights are incredibly heavy and are supposed to hang from the ceiling but this is not a possibilty due to the design of hood and not being allowed to drill as i live in a rental flat.

any thoughts the glass ledges being strong enough ?

thanks guys

I wouldn't risk it. that bracing isn't designed to bear weight like that, and if it were to break, say goodbye to everything in the tank. I would mount it from the ceiling and patch the holes when you move. Or mount from the wall. You could use adjustable shelving brackets and hang the unit from that using cable or chain.
