ok heres the deal i got this 20 gallon tank with a stand.....its just a tank no overflow or plumbing....i'm thinking of making it a barebottom mostly sps dominated...my question is what can i use or what is the best thing to use in the field or filtration and what lighting can i have to sustain sps in a longterm...i'm already thinking for the circulation i will use a tunze nanostream...so if there is any help out there please give some pointers to a brotha:Di also had an idea of using my water from my bigger tank so i wont have to wait a cycle period

i also got a 90 gallon sooooo...im not COMPLETELY new :D

a good T5 lighting system might be a great option for you.
Just as bright as MH but without the heat and not quite as expensive.

I have 4 T5's running on an oceanic 30 Cube and the light they put out is amazing. all i have in there so far are a few zoanthid frags and a few ricordea frags but the light seems to be doing them good. i have to get a nano stream for the tank tho.

I have 4x24" 3 daylight bulbs and 1 super actinic all with individual reflectors and i built a canopy and mounted them in the canopy.

if you are willing to do some custom work, you can take retro kits and make a light fixture for very little cost.
there are piles of info in the DIY section on where to get ballasts bulbs reflectors caps and everything you need. For my bigger tank i made an otd dual 400 watt MH system for under 350.

marineandreef.com has 18" T5 fixtures, which should work pretty nicely (however, I don't believe they have individual reflectors, and it doesn't look like there's much room in there for any.)

I have no idea...I still haven't figured out if there's some crazy rule of thumb for lighting to keep LPS and SPS.

They also have some 18" Retrofit "fixtures" that can be daisy chained together. They're only 9w bulbs, but you can get mounting leg things for 6 of them.

Aquactinics will soon have 24" fixtures available. Not sure if they're 4 or 5 bulbs, but they have individual reflectors.
