Hi all,

I have my anemone in my 12g nano for the moment while my 34g is maturing.

Currently I have 1 x 10000k 24w PC and 1 x Actinic 24w PC

There is a back filter on the tank so the actual wpg is 4.8-5

Does the actinic provide the anemone the right spectrum of light aswell as the standard bulb?

Kind Regards
Steve

Forgot to say that the tank depth is about 12"

Most likely you will need a metal halide. all anenome's need high light. some a bit more than others. what kind is it? BTA can survive in less light than a carpet. This will help people answer your question

there is a sticky on top of this thread which should provide you with good information....lighting feeding placement etc. Have a glance and see what you can find out. I am not an expert by any means and do not want to lead you down the wrong path

If you are asking what would be good in the nano I think MH would be overkill for 12 inches of water. If it is placed on a rock the anemone will be only about 6-8 inches from the top of the water and a MH may actually be to strong. For the nano I would think about VHO bulbs. This will be a lot cheaper and the replacement bulbs would be cheaper too.

For the larger tank I think you would also be just fine with a VHO or T-5 kit. I am really liking the T-5's because I know several with tanks that are several feet deep have great success running T-5's. Also, they use less wattage and have a lot less heat, which may really raise the temps in such small tanks. These are just my ideas btw.

I would guess the spectrum should be closer to daylight bulbs because they are shallow water animals. I run actinic t-5 bulbs and daylight MH bulbs in my 75 gallon. (yes, I wish I had all t-5s now and no MH)

Thanks for the info, just wanting to make sure what I have currently is ok for the Anemone.

Do anemones benifit from Actinic lighting also?

They won't really benefit, it just gives them more of a nicer look to them. Anemones really love the lower spectrum of around 7500 Kelvin.

This is my Crispa under my T5 lighting.

Way back when I had a crispa in my 75g, before I lost it to a power outage it took up about a 1/3 of the tank -- they can/will get very big.

Yes they do become large anemones. I would say you either need a specialized tank for this species or just a large one at that. In fact, I am building a custom cube for the one I have in my 55 gallon.

Hmmm... thanks for that! So theres not much point in waiting to put it in the 34g when its matured.. Taking it back to the lfs tomorrow for a part exchange on a GBTA.

Thanks for the advice all :)

Take this the right way --- I am impressed, that is a great move on your part. Keep that thinking up.

Thanks for taking the advice and acting on it.

Good news, I just fed it half a silver side, and it is close to the mouth and it hasn't let go of the food yet. So I believe I have a success!
