What are ya'lls opinions on this thermometer? It's going for $34.95 on MarineDepot. I was just wondering if I should get a regular glass thermometer or invest in this one....???
Thanks
PS: Links to recommended thermometers would be appreciated

As far as thermometers go...I'm not sure it matters a whole lot. It's kinda hard to screw up a thermometer. Pinpoint makes some great electroics for aquaria...so if you do want a digital display, pinpoint is a great choice.
If you don't mind using the standard floating glass type then that'll save you money for sure, but if you want a digital read out I would recommend the Pinpoint brand. I've tried cheaper digital thermometers and they end up crapping out on me after a couple months...too much salt water near them is my guess. Pinpoint knows they're making products for saltwater aquariums, so they tend to last much much longer in salty conditions.
bottom line tho...it's up to you. i've used a floating glass thermometer in my tank for a very long time...and as long as you don't mind pulling it out of the water and squinting trying to read it...then it's really not much trouble...and it's cheap! it just boils down to what kind of money you're willing to spend and if you care about it being digital one way or the other. :)

I've recently bought a Pinpoint Thermometer to replaced a cheapy coralife digital thermometer that I accidentally threw in a tank full of water. It works, but I'm not estatic over the performance or anything. The reading varies from my other temp devices so not sure how unaccurate it is or weather my other equpiment is being inaccurate. It also doesn't give a constant update like you would have with a glass floating thermometer, I'm not even sure how often it's updating but doesn't seem often, maybe every 5 minutes or so. The one feature that I do like is being able to use multiple remote sensors for my different tanks and just having to deal with one or two pinpoint units. I think 1 unit will use up to 4 sensors. And these do not have to be in the same tank, you can have it reading on 4 tanks. Mine also picksup signals from who knows where and gives false readings on sensor spots 2-4 and I don't have multiple sensors running yet, so we'll see if that messes with it later on when I do get more.

I like mine. I find it to be accurate, or at least it reads the same as what my heater is set to. I agree that the option to have multiple sensors is a big plus if you have more that one tank.
I have the display on my den table beside where I sit to watch tv, which is probably not the best idea as I check it at least 3 or 4 times each hour.

I'm happy with my coral life digital one as well...gives me a good idea of the temp...plus its not like I'm on top of the tank 24-7 but i do check it often...i think people are really paranoid sometimes when it comes to this stuff...

i have seen a picture on here of a pinpoint, glass, and digital all on the same tank and they all read diff temps up to 8degrees difference between them. i guess any thermometer is just as accurate/inaccurate as any other.
