I posted this in the reef fish section like a dumb-dumb...but now i'll bring it here to hopefully get a little more insite.

I have a Zebra Moray, maroon clown, and yellow-eyed tang. Before I got the eel I had some CUC...but know I wanted an eel, once all the CUC died off (for some reason i had an issue w/ snails not lasting long in the tank...) i went for the eel....now i'm almost regretting it. i like the eel a lot..he's really cool...i can almost hand feed him now! but the glass is too much of a pain to keep looking nice without some turbo snails.

so my question is this....

Is there any type of snail or anything from a CUC that I can add to the tank that the eel won't mess with? I'd hate to go blow money on 30 turbo snails only to find an overly stuffed eel the next day. :D

Any suggestions or help is welcome! and thanks in advance.

I don't know what a CUC is, but my zebra and snowflake leave my snails alone. Maybe it's just that eels personality. Any chance to exchange it for another individual? Maybe if the eel never learned that snails taste good, they'll leave them alone.

CUC = clean up crew.

blok, i dont have any hands on experience with eels, but what size turbos are you using? i doubt that a zebra could deal with the golf ball sized turbos.

alternatively you could try the snails that stay quite small. these would present less of a meal and maybe they would be left alone.

as it stands now, i don't have any turbos. my lfs doesn't ever have any golfball sized snails...ever. hermits and such, yes, but not snails. i guess it wouldn't hurt to buy a couple snails just to see how the eel reacts, but i hate dropping anything in the tank that might die as a result...even the lowly snails. lol

my zebra moray leaves hermits and snails (even small ones) alone.

My zebra also doesn't bother any of my snails, or my queen conch. I too am curious to try shrimp but I don't wanna end up with an expensive eel dinner.

Tiger coweries work great! My Undy can't even get to them.
