I hope I am posting this in ther correct section? I am having enormous problems with ich. Every Blue Tang that I put in this tank get ich and starts the cycle. I have been using Kick Ich treat ment I am now on my second round. Does this stuff work?

I have live sand and rock with Corallin growing. I have also decided to put Ruby Reef in its sister product b/c the Blue Tang is getting better by my Naso Tang looks horible it is quite big but has not ate in 3 days. I am hoping its size will save it? Do you agree.

My tank has gotten worse since I put in aditional 15 lbs of live rock that is cured no smell. I thought providing live rock would help with the water stability.

I am not suppose to do water changes while treating, I am kind of at a loss.

During this time I have also lost 2 emerald crabs and 2 ocellarous clowns.

I have tested my water Ammonia and Nitrie 0, but Nitrates are high. Salinty is normal as well as PH. Calcium is high around 600ppm.

Please provide help. Steve

Is this in a 60g?

1st- get rid of the nitrates with some water changes and less feeding. Your bioload is probably WAY too big with those fish.

2nd-under NO circumstances is a naso appropriate for a 60 gallon. For that matter neither is a blue. They are stressed from the WAY too small tank and getting ick. That will most likely never change. I want a Naso so bad for my 180g but am torn as to wether to get 1 but no way can you have one in a 60g.

Bottom line, no matter what you do, if you try to keep a Naso and a blue tang in a 60g it will most likely never work. You need a MUCH bigger tank or ditch the tangs from your fishlist.

In-tank treatments like Kick-Ich are very hit or miss. Since you have a lot of liverock, that will also work against you as it tends to absorb the Kick-Ich or any other kind of medicine. That's why hospital/QT tanks are really the way to go when treating fish for Ich.

You need to get ALL of your fish into a QT tank as soon as you safely can and then treat them with hyposalinity (SG=1.009). This is done by slowly lowering your SG a little each day. Then you need to leave your display tank fishless for 6 weeks so all the Ich will die off.

Here is a thread that will help you with the QT setup.

I agree with alan. Ich is in your tank now, so it's no surprise that when you drop a tang in that they are getting it. I would get used to it if you want blue tangs. Or run hypo for 6-8 weeks while leaving your tank fallow. I stopped keeping tangs because of ich
