Blue Tang
Clown Tang
Naso Tang
It is a 100 gal.

Any time multiple tangs are in a aquarium it is "hit or miss" The yellow tang will definitely be your wild card, because it is in the same family as the sailfin. The blue and naso will be fine. Clown tangs are fairly difficult to keep, very sensitive to water conditions. But in a established aquarium you should have no problem. I would maybe get a foxface, vs getting the yellow, and you would probably be okay. I would add the yellow tang last. Also keep in mind that tangs need lots of swimming room.

Terrible advice. A 100 gallon tank will in no way be large enough for all of the fish listed.

Won't work. Sailfin will get way to big, Naso needs way more swimming room. A yellow and blue SHOULD be ok together.

Try it and see...you never know...I am aware that some of you think that it is a horrible thing to do but i have two hippos and an achillis tang i my 72 gallan and they are doing absolutely wonderful. The achilis is about 5 inches and the two hippos are about 4 inches. It just depends on the fish...most of the time. I agree will begiles!!!!!!!!!!

Athough if it becomes a problem...actions should be taken to make them happy....even if that means getting rid of a couple.

that many tangs in a small tank stunts the growing of the fish and not the organs and in the long run shortens the life

I would suggest getting the yellow tang only.
Sailfin -- too big.
Clown tang -- too big, gets too mean.
Blue tang -- which one?
Naso tang -- way too big.

thanks a lot for the info, they are all very small now, how much time takes to grow up.

I don't believe this to be true (and have read many places that this theory is false). If you were living in a closet would you stop growing? Would a 16yr old who got locked away never grow since he is always in a jail cell? The fishes' lifespan would shorten because they are in subpar conditions.
That's too many tangs for a 100 gallon. I'd recommend 2 max, like a blue and a yellow.

I have a 90g right now, with a 5" striped bristletooth tang(one of the smaller species of tangs) and I even feel that my 90 is too small for her. She is the largest fish in the tank, with 4 other very small fish. I would say that 2 is the absolute max for tangs in a 100g, and I mean 2 of the smaller species. If I were you, I would get a blue and a yellow. I have found that those two species tend to do well together most of the time. Good luck with your tank, keep us posted on your decision.

I would only put 1 tang in a 100, maybe 2, if they are very different colors and body shape. I would not go with the clown tang, needs lots of room and gets aggresive, I would not go with the naso, needs a lot of room and grows quickly, I would not get the sailfin as they will outgrow a 100 also.
The yellow and blue would be good.

I hve a Convict Tang and it swims constantly. I won't even consider putting another tang in my tank for that reason. Tangs are extremely active and need lots of swimming room. That is way too many tangs for that size tank. I would go with the yellow or blue.

Go to the Reef Fishes forum and look under the post "what tang for my 30g?", the RC admin gives you the tank sizes for almost all tangs available in this hobby.

Mr_o98, if you seach his posts, you will see that he wrote "just kidding" at the end of his post, but for some reason it isn't showing up - perphaps because of the symbols he used before and after those words.
Just an FYI.

DO NOT get a clown tang..
Major powerhouse swimmer and also quite agressive.
I have a Powder Blue and Naso in my 90 but they are only 4" long. I can't imagine keeping them in there for longer than 1year. Imagine an 18" naso in a 90g.
Rediculous.
I got them both because I plan to upgrade to a 300g.

Hey the issue is not even just will they get along, but will your tank support 4-6 soon to be big fish taking a poop!! To be frank, being that they are all algea grazing fiends and when they eat, they will all go...I know this because I have a orange shoulder yellow tang, Naso tang, Unicorn tang and Sailfin tang in my 250 and when it is feeding time, just watch the skimmer go crazy!! But seriously, the overall size off your tank is going to cause issues and your filtration might be oK when they are small, but we got all of ours about a year or two ago and averaged 3". Now they are up to 9-12" in no time. We will be upgrading I am sure to a 450-700 gallon in the not so distant furtue..OYE. Your best to find which one of these beauties and poo machines you really want and then use them as your focal point and then get a bunch of littler fish that serve a purpose in the tank. e.g. neon gobie-cleaner, diamond back gobie-siffter, chromis-mid water activity ect ect. Just a thought, better to plan for their eventual size now based on equipment you already have-I have saved already for the upgrade-just not sure when I want to deal with a 300lb tank...empty!! LOL

er that was supposed to be 3000 lb tank empty. although 300 lbs is enough too...LOL

It's amazing, everyone always says no to this, no to that. I had a yellow tang, purple tang, and a powder blue, that did just fine in my 90 gallon aquarium, my lfs has 2 yellow, 1 purple, 1 hippo, and a chevron in a 120. They have been there for 5 years, no problems. Curently I have a bicolor angel, coral beauty, and a keyhole . Imagine that!!! dwarfs cannot be together unless it is a 300g. Sure will it work all the time? No, but it's always a judgement call.

I think the bioload alone would be hard to keep under control. I have a yellow, powder blue, hippo, kole, blonde naso, and a baby vlamingi in a 150 and it is almost impossible to keep the water clean with the other inhabitants of the tank. Thus a 360G is sitting in the garage.
Tangs grow very fast.

Well honestly, if you feed your tangs what they would normally get on the reef, they will grow at an almost unimaginable rate, but most of us feed daily or less and even with 2+ sq ft of algae going into my tank daily, I know they could/would eat more and grow even faster. But all my guys are very happy...most of the time and always are eager to eat more algae. Its not a NO, like you stated, but better to have a few years of experience in water chem and maybe some trial and error on a smaller scale, before sinking alot of emotional investment and money into a new group of children-lets face it for those of us who dont have kids...these fish are very close substitutes and thiose of us lucky enough to have kids, they are still very close with the emotional bond. One should not figure my fish lived for 5 yrs...that good right, but not if it could/should live to 25-30. I am a third owner of a fish that is well into its 16-18th year.....not bad..LOL Fish nuts rule!

Hey, you are all right.
I think that we`re all looking for happines for our childrens (fishys). So no matter how much I want all thous Tangs is clearly that I should not.
For now I get out the Yellow Tang wich I allready had and I am looking for a smaller one not so common. I have a Blue Tang, firefish, and a Mandarin, I am gonna try not to put another. Maybe I close my eyes when I go next to the LFS, or maybe one day I go there and yell at them so when I go back they kick my ***!!!!
Another solution is to ask out the owner`s wife...... she`s so pretty!!!! lol

Or the ultimate, start saving for a 500 gallon beast and maybe you can have 3 or 4 dissimilar shaped and colored tangs. Also a noteable idea is get them small and have them grow together from when they are 2", that is how I think the orange shoulder, naso and sailfin were and they do not get into it, until we added the unicorn. I read on here-or in a book, not sure where that the tang/surgeon fish use an area equal to half a foot ball field or more per fish....not sure the online volume calculator goes that high for gallonage..LOL Good luck and you are wise beyond your years for listening to those who may or may not have made perfect decisions. :o)

from my experience, I had 3 tangs in a 100, and they didn't do well. I had a sailfin, a naso, and added last was a sohal. let's just say, something that someone with a 100g shouldn't try because it won't work, unless maybe if you had the 100g all empty with maybe one rock, a fowlr. my tank has over 100 lbs of lr. so that made the space even more tight.

You say it did not work. What happened? We can all agree that we can never actually giv e a tang the space it is accustomed to in the wild right? So please tell me what a foot, 18 inches, 6 inches is really going to hurt? Or better yet how much will it help? I agree bigger is better, but a foot or two for a six inch fish does not compare to half a football field!

I have a 7" yellow tang in a 48" 110g. I consider the tank barely adequate. I'd proceed very cautiously.
