I have tried vinegar, vodka and now sugar. I have added only 3 pinches of sugar in the past month and now red slime. It has been 3 weeks since I added any sugar and it still remains. It by no means is out of control or growing on any sps but in lower water flow areas under rocks it dwells.

I thought the meager 30 lbs of sand may need a vacuum but it is clean.

Tested phosphate with a hanna test kit it is really low possibly too low. It tests 0. I change 15% of the water weekly. Have a ca reactor and kalk bucket. Khi, mg and ca all are at normal levels.

I do think sugar is a fuel to grow bacteria as well as cyanobacteria. But do I have to resort to a erythromycin based red slime remover to stop the plague.

All first hand information is really appreciated.

One thing about testing for phosphates is they can still be the problem and test very low because the algae is consuming it.
