Okay so my RO/DI is showing 3 ppm TDS so its time to refresh the DI bed. The best prices I'm finding anywhere are far and away the Purlite from www.TwoPartSolution.com but at my current rate of consumption it will take me around 20 years to use up the smallest size they sell. Even when I get the 190 set up it should still take 5 years. So, would anyone like to go in with me on 11 pounds of Purlite? We can get 11 pounds for $55 and its even cheaper if enough of us order as this is the smallest size.

Also, I'm planning on getting 2000 grams of GFO for $65 which smokes the best price I can find on Phosban (the Geek sells 1200 grams for $80) but again it will take me quite a while to go through it all. Anyone interested in going in on this?

Shipping on the above two items is $12.34 which isn't too bad for 15 pounds worth of stuff. I'll wait a few days to order if there is some interest.

Thanks,
ChemE

ChemE,

John over at Johnny's Reefing Experience in BN carries the bulk DI resign. I picked up a couple of refills a short time ago from him. If that is what you are really needing you could stopy by there and pick some up. Or...if you need some now, I could just sell you what I have as I'm not needing it yet and I get over to BN fairly often so I can always pick more up.

Rick,

Thanks for the tip. Out of curiosity how much is it per pound? Also, I figuring I need around two pounds to refill my Typhoon III from AWI, does anyone know for sure how much I need?

To be honest, I don't remember. I'm sure you could give him a shout on Monday and find out.

I posted the question in his forum. I should have a reply later this afternoon.

Sorry, I'd forgotten I said I'd find out. :(

I wish I could but I think that it would be more economical for me place a separate order than to spend the gas $ to drive to Champaign and pick up

I ordered 5 lbs of bulk DI from AirWaterIce and it filled my DI cartridge 4 time with a smidge left over.

ChemE I've never done a refill, but may have to start due to my high tds. I might pick your brain about how to do it. I would buy lots at a time.

This will be my first refill too; I'll make sure to shoot some pictures for you. How high are the TDS at the new pad?

"I would buy lots at a time" just might be the understatement of the year!

650, wow! David, did you follow that thread about 1:1 waste RO/DI in the DIY forums? It might prove economical for you to mimic that setup. If I remember correctly it employed three RO membranes and a booster pump as the extra equipment. I suppose you should also go with seperate cation and anion beds so you can regenerate them yourself with acid (plus you'll get to play with acid!).

I got a response on the cost of the DI @ JRE for those interested.

"either 40.00 dollars for 5 lbs or 12.99 a refill for a 10 inch"

Anyone know how many lbs it takes to fill a 10-inch??

I stopped by the store yesterday for the first time. Definitely worth an hour drive. He has 1/2 of the TMR killer store display tanks. They are expanding (w00t!) and it look like the new section is made for the other 1/2 of the TMR tanks. I picked up DI resin (1 lb bag - I forgot about the 5lb bulk doh!) and a sediment filter
