I'm new to the hobby and i'd like to get a tropical freshwater tank. What size would be the best for a beginner? I'm thinking a 46 gallon? Also, does anybody have a free tank they would be willing to give away? Or a cheap tank near columbus ohio? Please let me know. Thanks! Lexis

a 46 is a great size for a begginer, not to big and not to small. i have plenty of tanks but your to far, sry. good luck with the hobby, it can be very rewarding, take your time and read up on what you plan to keep

I started with a 40g. It's a good size but now wish I would have gone bigger. The bigger the better imo. More water = more stability. ;)

Tropical freshwater? You realize this is a saltwater forum, right? Not that many of us haven't done FW before. :)

Not that many of us haven't done FW before. :) You can buy a 10 gallon tank setup for freshwater at a pet store for about $50 or less has everything but fish and decorations to get you started (i bought one of these for my QT tank) i also have a 46 gallon bow, it is nice, i also have a 55 gallon freshwater :D.

 I completely overlooked that you want to keep a freshwater tank. Either way, the bigger the better imo. I've kept 10g freshwater tanks before and was still limited with the amount and size of fish you can successfully keep. ;)
