I know people use starboard to put on the bottom of the glass so that the rocks will not scratch nor break the glass. I was wondering if I can use acrylic instead of the starboard since I would like to go BB?

I don't see why not.

The people that use starboard usually do it for the look too. It can take over 1year to cover the bottom in coraline.

i did it in my 75 gal bb. looked horrible in no time. algae grew between the bottom of the tank and the bottom of the plexi. it also warped on me. i had it in for about 2 months, just got done installing my hdpe the other day. you don't have to use starboard. Go to us plastics .com and get a piece of 1/4" white hdpe. it cost me like $30 shipped for my 48"x18" bottom. hth
