I've already decided to paint the back and sides of my new tank black. (There is only one viewing side) However, my wife thinks that it will look cheap. Honestly, I'm going to do what I want, but it would be nice to have less grief from her about it. Can you guys post some sharp looking tank pics with black backgrounds. If you have a before and after shot that would be even better! Thanks!

Why would you not want to look at the sides of your tank? I love looking at mine from different angles. I would not want to miss some of the things that I cannot see from just the front.

I just painted this a couple of weeks ago, the tank looks a little darker because im using 20 K bulbs. If you use a 10 K this will be much brighter.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/814365_7_2007_pic2jpg.jpg http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/814365_7_2007_pic3pg.jpg http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/814365_7_2007_pic4pg.jpg

Point out to your Wife that the black really makes the equipment blend in so you really don't notice it. That should be appealing.

how about a black background...with...coralline growing on it?

Hey Ron,

Your infomercials <sp?> are a scam! I watched your dad cut with the knife through the metal on the far side of the knife then cut the tomatoe with the near side of the knife.

I was devestated. I really thought I could trust you.

Here is a pic of a navy blue bg to show your wife that blue is better than black. LOL

I like that dark blue!

I was having a hard time making a choice between blue and black and decided dark blue was the happy medium.

It's actually vinyl made by Avery. You can buy it at any sign shop or art stores by the foot and its sticky on one side. Make sure to get the thickest vinyl possible because light does pass thru it.

I actually have two layers of vinyl. Navy blue and black to make sure zero light can penetrate thru it.

Best trick to install it is with a spray bottle with a little dish soap so lubricate the surface and work the bubbles out with a large putty knife used to drywall.

Good luck!

Hahahahahahahahaha that's great.

Here's a horrible picture of mine with nothing in it, i just finished it the other night. Four coats of black rust paint. I am very happy with how it turned out.

I think it is important to keep the coraline off the glass as it adds depth to the aquascape. I let mine go a year before I cleaned it off and I would never go back to having it on the glass.

My 125...not a good shot but you get the idea.

IMO any CLEAN background is great. I chose black for the depth it adds, and being able to match my overflow and plumbing.

I let mine go to, but once I cleaned it I will not go back. SO much nicer, I will try and take a pic for before and after shots.
