View Full Version : Trade Coral for Fence Material Delivery ?

I'm wondering if anyone has a truck and flatbed trailer in the Champaign area that would be willing to meet me at Lowe's so I can load 17 of the 6 x 8 wood fence panels, 4x4x8 posts and crete and haul them to over by Parkland. I thought a coral trade was possible, would $50 coral value be good ? Just tossing this out there since I'm slimming down and thought it may work out for someone.

TIA

Paul, I have a truck and could help out; I don't have a flatbed trailer though. It would probably take us a couple of trips. When were you thinking about doing this??

I was hoping within the next week or so. The panels hang off the side of a pickup pretty bad. Is it a full size truck that we could pull a flatbed with if we find one ?

Yes, it would pull a trailer without problem. How big are the panels? Could we stand them up and tie them that way?? You'd be surprised what I've hauled in this truck.

Panels are 6 x 8 feet, maybe they can be laid on the top of the bed and strapped down ? I think if we stood them up they would be more prone to tipping over. When would you be available ? I'm off work by 5 most days and home on weekends.

I work Fri-Mon. I'm off all day Tuesday, then off for the Weekend starting Thursday. So after this weekend, my schedule is pretty flexible, I am just getting ready to start my long week for work.

Sounds good, I can arrange with you for next week/weekend if something else doesn't pan out. I appreciate it.

I can also tow a trailer if you need additional help and have access to another trailer.

Thanks, I'd hate to have you drive from mahomet. Since it's just 17 panels I think one truck and a few trips or a trailer should work.

What does lowes charge for delivery anyway? I had a bunch of railroad ties delivered to a site in mahomet last week and I think it was like 45 bucks or something. Of course they laughed at the beads I was trying to trade so I had to give them cash.........

Menards has a 50.00 flat charge for intown deliveries.

I think Lowe's charges $45 or $55 somethin like that. I think I wound up with 20 panels. ziac, how many 6x8 panels of fencing do you think the box van will hold ?

oh and lol @ the beads comment .... did you price out the other stores for RR ties and Lowes was the best ? Just curious since I think I might be picking up a few in the future.

i honestly would have to look at the invoice to see if it was lowes or menards- I don`t recall. I don`t really note the price rather who has the quality I need at the time.(I am not paying for them) I use spec railroad ties they have to be over 250lbs or more before creosote, and that is a killer on anything other than a flatbed-and I ride a sled! Unless you are doing hardcore structural stuff I would use landscape timbers in whatever size you like. Heck of a lot easier on the bod.

landscape timbers warp, even with rebar driven in :/

I don`t know we did a job last year with 6x6 or 8x8s that is supertightdave. Real ties are cool- but check the specs for real ones and it is intimidating. Hard on the chainsaw- hard on the drills and hard on the back. I do agree that green treat anything is a challange to work with twist wise, to say the least.

well I can get about 4 feet width of clear space in between the shelves and 14 feet length of open space I am not sure how thick the sections are but that will give you an idea of how much room i got to work with but any thing you put back there will not blow out or need to be tied down

think it might rain this weekend ? :P

I'm guessing it will take two loads, if you're around this weekend give me a ring. I dont mind doing it in a light rain and dont expect help loading/unloading since that would suck. We can play it by ear but having the panels enclosed makes me feel a lot better than strapped to the back of a pickup.

I had a thought too, I would be willing to trade some labor for corals if anyone is interested in a back ache. They can be entire colonies also. Mainly I'm at the pulling old posts with a jack and resetting new posts stage but could also use a hand for the panels if anyone is interested. I'm just working on it after 5 on weekdays and weekends so no super rush.

Thanks

Big Thanks to ziac for the help, as well as hcs3. Hope the corals do well for you ziac, looking forward to seeing how they change in a year.
