What size/kind of pump should I put on a 70 gal tall tank with a 20 gal long sump and 1 1/2 in bulkhead? Tank is 36 x 18 x 25. Overflow is in the middle on the back of the tank. The stand stands 30 in. tall and the sump will be under the tank in the stand.

No body knows the answer to this question? It is a serious question, I don't know how to figure it up myself. Can anyone help me out a bit?

I've got a Mag 9.5 in sump, and another Mag 9.5 for CL.

There isn't really a "schoolbook answer" for the question. It depend on how much flow you want going through the tank and sump. Will you have additional powerheads or a closed loop to provide flow? A Mag 9.5 would do fine for a 70 with about 4'-5' of head. This will give you around 700 - 800 gph through the display and sump, or about 10x the volume of your display. Depending on which animals you wish to keep, this may need to be increased to 20x or more for the display only. This can be accomplished with additional powerheads or a closed loop.

Best of luck. :)
