I would like to buy a camera that can take close ups of my corals. What is a good camera to get for under $400.00 new and/or used? What do I need with it to get close ups?

For under 400 you will not be able to get into a new DSLR such as the cannon rebel or nikon d40. If you look in the used market you might be able to find one of thoese for around 400-500 range. I found my Cannon Rebel 6.3MP on Craigs List, it came with a bunch of extras and 2 lens. As far new you get into the higher end point & shoots for 400 but they limit you on future growth in the photograpy hobby as far as expanding with other lens and such. HTH

I can safely recommend a canon rebel XT. If you purchase on online you can get it with a standard lens for $550. Beware of scamming photography online stores. Check with resellerratings.com before buying from anyone online.

You can try B&H Photo Video or Adorama - I shop them exclusively and they are rarely undercut by legitimate online vendors. Both have used camera sections that often have pretty decent prices (with 90 day warranty's to boot). You can also try “Canon Digital Photography Forums”.
