Thinking of setting up a 10 gallon bare bottom, with some lr, an aqua clear filter(not sure what size) and doing weekly water changes. Do you think this will be enough?

depends on what you put in the tank...fish, cleanup crew...what are you planning? I personally would not go bare bottom...deep sand beds are helpful

I can go with sand if thats better. Just a percula and some snails/hermits for livestock

I would go with at least a 3" sand bed. Others may disagree...there are pics of my tank in the recent "show off your nano" thread...I don't do regular water changes and my readings are great. I just replace evaporation daily...does the trick.

i wouldn't go with a BB for the setup you described.

BB can be great, but it can also be a disaster if you set it up wrong. heavy, wet skimming pretty much falls into the absolute must category...IMO at least.

here's (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=650985) a good read if your new to BB setups.

at the same time, a 10g isn't really big enough to have a useful DSB.

so i'd go with ~3", or whatever looks good to you. get as big of an AC as you can, and convert it into a fuge. that along with LR & weekly WC's and you should be good to go.

i used a Aquaclear 110 (500) on my ten with 96w coralife fixture. loved it then upgraded to a custom canopy with 120w, 3 x40w. i used a 2x9w coralife mini fixture for over my AC filter. had LR rubble and some cheato in the filter, didnt do any mods to it either, just put the stuff in the basket. i didnt mod acouple other AC filters but wasnt happy with them.
