My coralline algae occasionally does this also, Just setting up a new tank which has live rock but no lighting as of yet and recently it has just flaked a bit, but now is slightly darker in colour and has stopped flaking. I'm not sure if it was the stress of moving the rock and the algae just adapting to the new conditions and getting rid of stressed cells or something.

It could be many things. Are your water parameters stable? Coraline will come and go... species will compete and overtake each other and some inverts will feed on it. I would not be conerned if the tank is otherwise healthy.

I experienced the same thing as philbo32. As I set up my 33g cube some of the coralline seemed to turn white at first then it perked back up to nice purple color after shedding a smaller layer.
