What's the secret to getting them tight enough to stop the hoses from leaking?

What kind of hoses? What kind of fixures? What kind of "electrical ties".

You mean plastic ZIP TIES?

I've seen it done on a fire suppression system and wasnt a big fan at all. You could use a panduit gun but you can buy 10 SS clamps for the price of one gun. Clamps would make me sleep better than zip ties anyway.

I agree plastic clamps are best as well. But to tighten zip ties use a pliers to put give it a good strong pull. Use heavy good ties to do it as well. I use them at times for a quick fix. They have worked. But a plastic clamp would be good thing to add to your next order of other things...
