i am getting a hole popped out of the back of my 20l. i was going to install a bulkhead, pop a pvc elbow on the in tank side and make an overflow box on the back side but i was thinking it would be easier if i could rig up some pvc durso overflow for the back. i believe ive seen this done on a tank... if anyone has a pic, please post it

thanks

mike

You can do it, but your water level will only be as high as the elbow. That's why people do the box, so it can be higher than the elbow!

here is what you do. on the inside of the tank, turn the 90 degree elbow upside down so that the opening is facing up. on the outside of the tank, have a pvc T connected to the bulkhead so that you have one opening facing up, and one openinf facing down. on the one facing up, add a short length of PVC with a PVC cap on it with a small hole drilled in the cap to let air escape. on the hole facing down, plumb to your sump. it is as easy as that. Let me know if this is confusing and I will try and explane better.

The www.dursostandpipes.com website doesnt let me link to the specific page where this mod is, but just pretend that the overflow box is the wall of your tank, its the same principle. The description of it is in the "popular modifications" section.

you would be better to do a wier stlye overflow box and then have a durso inside the box...

you dont drill a hole but rather cut out a piece fromt he top edge of the tank...cut it as wide as you build your external overflow box (well about 1/2" shorter on each side) and cut it as deep as you would like the water height to be...water flow will determine the wier height (depth of the water flowing over the wier)

something like this...
