I have a Toad Stool Leather that is not doing so well in my tank. He's been on the downward slope for 6-9 months now. I think the tank change and MH light are doing him in. He did great when I was using power compacts.
Anyways, I would like to remove him from the rock he is atttached to with out tearing up my tank. So, do you guys think it would be OK to use a razor blade to cut him off of the LR. I can't think of any better way to remove him. Would the metal of the razor blade effect the water quality ?

Youll be fine. Just dont leave it in the tank.

takes a bit longer than that for metal to start to corrode in salt water.

yeah but not much longer, I left a wet razor next to my tank and came back half an hour latter and it was orange..

When you cut it off, the remaining piece will either regrow, or die off as well. If you want to get rid of it all together, use kalk paste to get rid of the "stump".

If you are going to cut him underwater, you might want to run a lot of carbon for awhile to help get rid of anything he releases.

Yeh, they are pretty much single use... I never atempt to clean them and dry them for another use..

I agree with the AC thing. Some nasty looking stuff most likely will come out of the toadstoll.

if you cut close enough to the base, where you are still scraping the rock, he may release himself from the rock.
