where would you rate the ASM skimmers?

They seem to be a much better price point then Euro reef.

ASMs are good skimmers, but aqueurousa / octopus are better values now.

The price of the ASM's are not that much better than the Euroreefs. If you've seen them both in person you would understand the slight price difference. I had an ASM G3 and CS100 before and the euroreefs were build much better. However, both will do the job.

Here's how I would rate ASM skimmer.

build quality from best to worst:

1. EuroReef
2. Octopus or Aquaeuro
3. ASM

prices from most expensive to least:

1. EuroReef
2. ASM
3. Octopus
4. AquaEuro

perfromance from best to worst:

1. EuroReef
2. Octopus or Auaeuro or ASM

ASM skimmers are not that great of a bang for your buck these days. Infact their build quality is very shoddy given the price point.

I own an ASM G3, I have modded it to where it works awesome. They do work very well, However compared to the Octopus or AE skimmers the best bang for the buck is with one of those. An RO NW 200 is an 8 inch monster pulls more air, is better built and costs less that a G3.,

Lets face it. This is just the nature of beast. The best bang of the buck today may not be the best bang of the buck tomorrow.

I have an old Pentium II computer that used to be the best bang of the buck that is sitting in the garage collecting dust. Try hyping that up ;)

The ASM skimmers were made very popular because of the very low initial sale prices. The prices have since increased quite a bit. I suspect that would be the reason for some of the statements above.

They were all the rage for price vs performance, but as the price climbs, that ratio deflates.

I will say that a local reefer replaced an ASM G3 with a similar sized "expensive" skimmer and the performance difference is very substantial.

Sadly, I do not recall what the new skimmer make or model is. Others may have a totaly different take.
