thinking about adding a 1hp aquamedic titan chiller to my system and am trying to figure out the most efficient way to plumb it into my system. ideally i'd prefer not to have to add another pump.

my sump is a 100g stock tank. i have an mrc beckett skimmer driven by a pcx-55 pump. would i be able to add the chiller in between the stock tank and skimmer pump such that the pump would pull the water through the chiller and then be pumped into the skimmer? i know you're not supposed to restrict the intake side of pumps, but didn't know if this would be considered restriction. the water level in the sump would be higher than the chiller height.

poor drawing, but it would look something like this:

good/bad idea?

thanks,

not a good idea, while i personally prefer the chiller to exit to the sump you might incorporate it into your return pump plumbing if that's your only other choice.

I agree. I am in the process of adding a chiller and the directions specifically say to have the chiller after the water has been "cleaned" to ease the build-up.
