Hello all,

I'm currently setting up a 55 gal, with a 20 gal sump.

I was wondering if the sump will adequate?

Also, I'm think of going with a RS-80 skimmer, I've been reading good things about this skimmer, any thoughts?

Thx!

I have a euro reef rs 80 promo and for under $180.00 is hard to beat. i put a aga 30 under my 55 had to mod the back center brace to get it to fit. Make sure you have enough room in sump to DRAIN PLUMBING and not have a flood when the power goes out!

thats a good question, I'm not sure how much will drain into the sump if power goes out.

I just ordered a hurricane overflow box, that says it won't "break" siphon.

I use a 20 gal long for a sump on my 55. So far I have had no problems with it. When you first start it just fill the 55 until it starts to drain. Then fill the sump to the highest point you want it to get and then start your return pump. If the power goes out it will only back fill up to that point.

Just make sure your return in the 55 is not to low in the water because of reverse siphon in an outage.

There's a calculator on the front page that tells you how much will drain in the event of a power outage.
