View Full Version : Stress on wrasses and eels

In my existing 120g predator tank I have two eels (snowflake and zebra), and three wrasses (twin spot coris, dragon wrasse and bird wrasse).

In that tank I have Ich - only on my lionfish though, I have never seen a spot on any of the other fish.

I am gradually moving all these fish to my new 480g tank - so my question is would it be more stressful for the eels and wrasses to spend 1 month each in hypo in a 30g tank, or to be moved straight to the big tank?

I am asking since the eels would not be comfortable without a substrate, the wrasses definitely not without some substrate to sleep in and the bird wrasse will most probably die from claustrophobia - it is already stressed in the small 120g tank.

My (limited) experience has just taught me that if a fish shows no sign of Ich (though it is in th tank - I know that) it could be better for the fish to go to a nice environment instead of being "cured" first... Is this not the same principal as the ocean? Because the ocean is so huge and the water quality so good - even though Ich exists there - it is never an issue as the fish's immune system easily fights it off.

Comments?

Lions often have white spots that are not ich.

I speak from experience since my wife has 5 lions in a 180g.

They look like micro bubles and they sometimes collect sand on them. They have them on those side fins ( technical term there :) )

Also Lion fish are very hearty against ich.

1 month in hypo is a complete and utter waste of time. If you're not doing it for 8+ weeks, you're better off not doing it at all.

If it looks like this it isn't ich. It is just stuff that collects on the lion. Don't freak out yet. Keep an eye on it or post a pic if you can.
