I put in the live rock Wed. and put in some snails, but they died. I picked them up and saw little bugs that looked like rolly pollies and quickly ran into the LR.

Are these harmful?

Hard to say with out a pic of them, they could have been pods (good to have) or some type of isopod (most likely bad). You could try doing a photo search for those and see if they match what you saw.

Many isopods are parasitic, but its hard to say without a positive id which is probably near impossible to make. I don't know what would get rid of them. Redfish (red drum) have big isopods that attach to their gills. I've seen them bite people. Creepy little suckers.

Did it look like this?

This is a bad one (bloodsucking little parasite), but there are similar isopods that are not a problem. This one was trying to chew its way into my hand. Score one for latex gloves.

HEre is some info:

The "bugs" you saw weren't necessarily responsible for killing the snails - they could have just been cleaning up after the fact.

Take a look through this site, lots of pics here.

they weren't like the pic. they were more red or pink. but they were that body shape. I know they didn't kill the snails. The other ones in the other tank died too -bad snails.

What do i do? Does anything eat them? I have handled the rock and they didn't come out.Bug are like my worst fear so i can't even look at them. But i'm the only one that saw them.

If they were that shape and red chances are it was an isopod. I would iodine dip everything for about 20 mins, that should drive them out. You are lucky, if they are parasitic, you dont have any livestock yet.

pics of one i found recently:

Not the best pics, i found 2, a red one and a green one.

How much iodine? How much water? Just put it in the water for 20 min and they will run out?Do i just put the rocks in after and thy won't be toxic? I have no livestock yet. I ahve no idea what to do.....

Never mind, we are just going to drop the salinity to 1.012.I have no livestock. Is 1.012 low enough or lower?

I use lugols and put roughly a squirt per gallon. Blast things off with a turkey baster real good and then put them ito a bucket of clean tank water before they go back into the actual display.
