View Full Version : Bubbles coming out of my sand bed

This is weird, well to me at least, I recently took over this tank that had been standing for a while well no light and low life stock and i went under the task to bring it back to life and now that ive added 48' outer orbit light with dual 10k 150s and dual 96w atintic im getting this weird bubbling that only seems to happen when the light is on and i contiuosly check water 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 phos 460ppm cal 12ยบ Dkh 8.3ph 1.024 sal 78 79 temp and have coraline growing what could be causing this?:mixed:

Bubbles on sand and live rock is something that is normal .. part of tank maturation .. just a sign of algae/bacterial growth and nothing to be concerned with.

Like Kevin said, it means that the sandbed is maturing. The bubbles are probably nitrogen which means the sand bed is reducing nitrates (part of the reason we put sand beds in our tanks).

I wouldnt worry....

Probably a type of cyanobacteria but as stated above, this is pretty normal. You can try to siphon out these areas during water changes if it's too unsightly.
