will a feather duster ever "shed" its, well, "feather duster" and start growing a new one? the topic came up at the lfs the other day when we saw that a tube had dropped it onto the sand.
any ideas?

Yes, they can. It's hit or miss whether they will grow back a new one though. It largely depends on why they dropped their feathers in the first place. It's either a sign they were disturbed or that they are dying.

They drop them in times of stress... it should not be something they do regularly.

Mine's dropped it duster twice and come out of its tube once. It has regrown everything both times and has even made a second duster about half its size.
