Just filled my tank last night. Only thing in it is dead base rock and sand. When I turned everything on my skimmer wants to overflow. My sump is 15" deep so I think I need to raise my skimmer. I'm assuming the return tube should be above the water level? At what depth do these work best? Thanks.

I just got a NW150 and haven't hooked it up yet. I read a post here that said it should be submerged more than 9" deep.

I just set up my aquarium as well and raised mine to a 9" depth using an in-sump stand I made from eggcrate.

When you first have it going, set the return tube high enough so that bubbles just go to the base of the cup. It'll take about a week for it to break in and start really skimming.

Thanks for the replies. I just made a stand from eggcrate as well. It seems to be working much better now.

I have mine set so the outlet is just under the water (for noise) and it works great. It took 2 days to really start working properly and now is giving some really dark, and dryer skim.
