These two creatures are living in my overflow and I'm not sure what they are so I don't know if I should be concerned about their presence.

The first, at first glance, looks like a small white dot. After putting on the glasses and inspecting more closely, I can see the dot is actually a spiral shape.

The next two pictures show some type of jelly blob:

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures.

Any suggestions as to what they are?

Thanks for your help.

the first looks like vermetid snails. very common and harmless as long as they don't block water circulation. The second one looks like small Scypha (sp?) sponges. Common and sign of a healthy system.

are they moving around or does it have like an body shape?

seapug,

Thanks so much for the ID. It would have taken me hours and hours to seach to find your IDs.

frederickk,

The white spiral dots stay attached to the walls of the overflow (and we also have some in the tank) as do the jelly-like substances. The two pictures I posted have different coloration of the jelly masses so I wasn't sure if they were the same ID.

We did have an octopus that laid eggs in our tank rocks (we hope we extracted all eggs to the sump but weren't sure if we got all). The mother died as do all Atlantic dwarf octos after giving birth but we were still leary as to how to deal with the octo babies. After the ID by seapug, we are hoping that this is nothing to be worried about. Do you think it might be something else?

Thanks

I thought the first looked like limpets, but if they don't move maybe they are Spirorbidae worms.

Agree with the sponge, and both are harmless.

I'll go for spongies.

for the sponge-looking thing...it most likely is a pineapple sponge...had some in my tank....do a search on it....the other is most likely to be what seapug said (vermetid snail)...I currently have lots of those in my tank...almost getting to be out of hand...does any one have any suggestions on how to control their population?

First picture shows a group of Spirordid worms, (vermetid snails grow out of long tubes not spiral shells)

Second looks like pinnapple sponges.
