I am making an overflow box out of 1/8" acrylic and a sump out of 1/4" acrylic. What numbers of weldon adhesive will I need, and how much of each since I will have to order it online. My local glass shop carries methol chloride (poor spelling). Will this work or will it be toxic to my fish?

Thanks for any help,
Mike

#4 and #16. #4 for the seams and #16 if they are not perfectly square. You can use it to fill in the gaps. Methyl Chloride is the correct ingredient but there are a couple of other things in it.

I just found that ace hardware carries weld bond. Is this the same thing, or will it work?

it's not the same thing, and it won't work. I've heard of places using just Methylene Chloride, so it will work. Personally I would order Weld-on product online though. #4 and #16 as newbiereefer suggested. Use #4 for the initial joints and #16 to fill any minor imperfections if you make a mistake. www.rplastics.com sells the weld-on products.

Oh, and a 4oz. can of #4 and a 1.5oz. tube of #16 are the smallest sizes available and will be more than enough for an overflow box (or several overflow boxes).

Is there any product other than weldon that will work for this aplication? I am having trouble finding weldon locally and would prefer not to have to order it.

Thanks,
Mike
