What are these brown algae thing? Cyano?
I've tested the water, all within acceptable range. But they just keep growing and overtaking the tank. The corals are not happy at all. They don't open as usual.

A month/two ago my protopalythoa stopped blooming. It was very healthy and grew almost covering the live rock it was placed. There were some white stuff on it like fungus. I thought it was ok and would soon bloom again. But it didn't. Then my zoos stopped blooming too. This is when I noticed there're brown algae? growing on the zoos.

At some stage. I didn't do a water change for 4 weeks. But I top up with RO/DI water to compensate evaporation. During the 4 weeks of no water change, my hammer coral started to look unhappy. Did not expand as it should. It was the healthiest of all. Then slowly it got worse. I tested the water parameters, ie. pH, kH, calcium, phospate, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate before I did a water change. I was quite surprise to find out that they're all within the acceptable levels. I thought it was the water that caused the protopalythoa, zoos, & hammer not expanding and the brown algae?

Anyhow, I did about 30% water change but after a few days conditions were not improving. Instead, the hammer took a lot of down turn. My frog spawn were affected too. Within 48 hours it died. The hammer got worse and I decided to remove it.

Now the above pics are all that's left. The rest of the corals aren't happy but still surviving. The brown algae? are overtaking. I keep testing the water but all ok. I'm really confused. This is my first marine tank I have for my 4yo son.

I just don't understand when all were great and growing. Suddenly it crashed and become like this. I use NSW and 150 watt MH. I started this tank around Dec 06.

Please, help!!!

bad news, thats dinoflagellates. very very hard to get rid of.
you'll have to do a search here as theres a few different takes on how to get rid of it.
me, I lost over half of my corals and snails.
took 6 months to get rid of.
had to update my RO/DI,run carbon 24/7,,phospate remover, etc....
