Just want to clarify, in AU it is very difficult to get KNO3, if your wanting to raise NO3 in your tank, can someone confirm if its ok to use Calcium Nitrate instead? I see that most people use KNO3, but is Calcium Nitrate ok? also is there anything else i could use that would be suitable to increase NO3 in my tank

Regards

Chris

Ca(NO3)2 should be widely available as a Ca and NO3 supplement and is very soluble like all chlorides and Nitrates..........

You can always use a bit extra Ca++ anyway.

Also, try getting salt petre in the pharmacy, it's KNO3.
Or stump remover.......

It's ammonium nitrate they use to make bombs, KNO3 ain't that great except for blackpowder and model rockets.

Gasoline also can make great bombs etc, but curiously......that will never be illegal

Aquarium fertilizers at small volumes?
Seems silly to me.

Thanks Tom, i found some. Some Hydroponic stores sell CA(NO3)2, phamarcy had no idea what salt petre was, and LFS could not understand why id want to add NO3 to a tank.

Well, typical responses from all. glad you got it.
Dose 5ppm and try and keep it around that, start with 1x a week at 5ppm NO3.
