For the price differance what makes the Bm160 a better choice than getting a tunze 9010 for alot cheaper? Thanks

When I was researching Tunze 9010 for my new 75g anemone tank, I saw nothing, but rave reviews. These were all the older posts, but as it came to present and some history of use behind this skimmer, some are not as please with its performance as they initially felt. Sometimes this is typical of all hype on a new product line and same goes for the BM skimmers. We all saw how the ASM skimmer had such rave reviews when it came out and it was the skimmer to buy and now, it's almost down there as an overrated POS.

But I'm buying mine from a very knowledgeable source, who has used a lot of different skimmers from different companies and I trust his opinion as not being too biased, but based on actual hands on use. This same skimmer dealer was going to test the Tunze 9010, but mentioned that he received enough comments from current owners who think they are just OK and doesn't do as well as the BMs, that he's decided not to test or carry them.

Spoke with someone about this. If you can't fit the BM, go with the Tunze. Remember the Tunze is 5x4x17. A much different animal than the BM160. Not sure the dimensions of the 160 but the 200 is 13x8.5x19. I would hope the BM does better.

This is a very good size reaction chamber with 800lph air draw. It's going to be one powerful skimmer for smaller tanks.

I own a BM200 and several Tunze DOC skimmers. The Tunze is a very compact skimmer which will work in-tank or in-sump but IMO the performance on the BM160 will probably be better. I was able to improve the performance on the DOC series through adding a adjustable standpipe and mesh mod impeller but the small body has a limit on the air it can handle. Both products have good support - I've dealt with Roger at Tunze for years and he is a stand up guy. For the ATI, I've dealt with Reefgeek and Ed and both have provided good support.

meshmod? i was under the impression these were venturi based...with only newer tunzes using the sicce mesh'd.

Actually, the new Master Tunze models use a pinwheel with their sicce pumps.

But as far as a mesh-modded Tunze DOC, I've never heard of anyone else doing it either. But then again, I haven't searched for any info either.
