Hi, I saw this new product on marinedepot

http://www.marinedepot.com/ps/ps_ViewItem~...uct~TA6131.html

It seems like an awesome piece of equipment for a JBJ 6 gal nano reef like mine. Mine currently uses a 27 watt PC.

I could actually pack the hood with 4 of these mini Sun.

These LEDs are the same technology used for moon lights, they come in daylight and actinic, how do their intensity compare to lets say PCs or T5?, knowing this is intended for nano reef use.

well, theyre 5mm LEDs, which at max are about 15 lumens per watt, or 1/3 of what PCs are, or 1/8th of what T5s are, so they'll have nowhere near the intensity at the same wattage.

But weren't leds suppose to be intense?, somebody pointed out that it was possible to make a LED canopy but it would cost a lot, but this seems like a good price.

Are we sure the intensity is that much low?

Yeah, LEDs can be intense, but not those kind.

The only LEDs at this point that are available and compete with normal reef lighting are the Seoul Semiconductor P4s, adn they cost about $12 per LED.

Interesting, are there any other companies developing LED technology for aquariums?, because thousands of dlls for a solaris really seems like a joke.
