can i use cylinder blocks as part of my aquascaping

Yes, but you'll need to cure it seperately in freshwater to make sure it doesn't spike the pH. Read up on Do It Yourself Rocks, and you'll see what all the fuss is about.

Why not just use base rock? Seems like the cinder blocks would be scary heavy. ;)

Might want to check in the chemistry forum for toxicity of any metals that might leach out. Make sure you know what the alloy really is, too.

I'd be worried about a cast iron block rusting in the tank and not to mention all of the oils and other fine things that are obviously embedded into the cylinder walls etc. Sounds really dangerous for the life of the fish. Cool idea though!
