Rock turning Green?

The rock is turning green in my tank I am 2 weeks into the cycle is this good?

My water parameters are
Ammonia .5 this is as high as it has been so far
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0

Didn't check PH and calcium

I assume that it's not obviously algae growth. I had some greening as well. Some of it seems to be a green type of coraline, like a hard green plating over the rocks. That'll give way to reds and purples in time. I also had some where it seemed to be in the surface layer of the rock. This was particularly along broken edges of some tonga plate I have. I think maybe that's a boring algae (aren't they all ;) ). It hasn't spread from those broken edges, so I'm not too concerned.

Probably just some hair algae because the tank is cycling. It's very normal for your tank to go through a diatoma and hair algae cycle. Both should go away on their own in time. Wait until your cycle has finished and then you can add your cleanup crew to help. Continue to use RO/DI if you have the means. ;)

If it's a flat, hard, lime-green algae, it's likely coraline. Sometimes it starts out green and then turns pink (or is outcompeted by the pink variety).

It's possible. Can you describe the algae? Is it light or dark green? Is it hairy, hard, jelly-like, fuzzy?

It is a light green almost neon. it is thin not fuzzy or hairy. it looks slippery.

Does is look like this?? I had it for a while but it only subdued when I began running PO4 remover.

Dont know if it helps but I'm about 1 week into the cycle and experiencing the same thing. You are not alone...

If your rock is turning green, it could also mean not enough light for the photosynthetic process to take place. I doubt this if you have lighting or natural light int he room but it is possible.

My nano's been up for about a year and a half and I got that really quickly too. Mine was coralline... It died off pretty much immediately on my live rock when I first put it in there, then within weeks it started turning neon green, then eventually bright purple.
Whenever I added a new piece of rock or a frag that was on a rock, the same thing happened... and it happened very quickly...

I'm agree.. Normal cycling process...

I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that this is "green" coraline.

that is what I was thinking but why are my levels staying so low?

What inhabitants do you have in the tank? That is what do you have in the tank that's creating ammonia?

well It is in the cycle right now I only have live rock and live sand in the tank

How fresh/cured was the LR? You should have an ammonia source, if there is minimal ammonia it will slow the cycle.

Add a couple of snails and "feed" the tank with some food which will decay and throw off some ammonia.

What size tank and how many # of live rock... Again how cured/fresh was the LR when you got it... Where did you get the LR from?

the tank is 125 gallons

the LR was in my other 2 tanks for over 2 years.

I have 130LBS of live rock in the tank now.

there are a couple of hitch hiker snails and craps in the tank.

I also have 200LBS of live sand in the tank.

should I add some damsels to help start the cycle or just feed the tank?

You should not worry about the green on the rocks, its normal cycle issues. I would not feed or add anything. My rocks did that at first, it seemed the base rock turned green and not the cured LR, its normal and it will go away with time. Dont rush your cycle, relax and let it do its thing.

Agreed... You just have to let this aquarium cycle through... It's all normal.
