Please help me choose a new skimmer. I currently have a coralife ss65 for my system that is currently 120g total. The coralife sits in the sump. I need a skimmer that i can put underneith my tank but not in the sump. So i need to plumb water out of my sump into the skimmer then back into the sump. Also if there is a skimmer that has some type of bubble diffuser. Thanks for your help.

Almost all the recirc skimmers as well as becketts are this way. Depends on how deep your pockets are and the size of your tank/bioload:)

well i am looking to stay around $400, average bioload, and i need a skimmer that i can eventually put on a 240g system. But now my system is 120g.

Shop around for used skimmers....I bought a used custom-made TriggerSys dual Beckett (42" tall) for $400 to put on my 480gal.....there are good deals out there if you're patient :)

Petorama (http://stores.petorama.net/Categories.bok?category=Aquarium+Supplies%3APumps%2FFilters%3AFilters). They are not known to be a great retailer, and shipping damage is a problem. There are some threads about them and the DAS skimmers. i would read them.

Gotta agree with sjm here. If you can get a DAS out to your house w/out it being damaged (many have, many have not), they can't be beat for your budget.

Good luck!!

Bubble Diffuser wise your only real choice at the moment in terms of externals are the Bubblekings, way out of your price range. I would go with the DAS EX-2, or go to www.protein-skimmer.com and ask them to make you a custom one similar to a DAS EX-2. Who knows, you might even be able to build in a bubble diffuser for relatively cheap... though I don't think this is necessary.

I had an H&S A150. It uses the same pump with a little different impeller.

It was quiet, but not silent. I think you'll be happy with it. But if you're looking for something quieter, look into the eheim model NW skimmers.

You'll always be able to hear the air intake though.

Don't go with Remoras, hardly ever heard anyone experienced with protein skimmers give them good reviews. Not alot of options as far as HOB skimmers go and you're always going to have a better skimmer in an external recirculating needlewheel.
